The Barrino Brothers - 'I Shall Not Be Moved' - Sequel NEMCD 435
Another super rare CD release from Sequel this time from the excellent Barrino Brothers whose 1972 single release 'I Shall Not Be Moved' is one of the most sought after UK 45's on the label and I remember it like yesterday when my elder sister brought a copy of this home one day in '72' and played it to me and after just one play I have been hooked for the last twenty seven years. A true dance floor classic indeed. The CD can easily boast many more gems too for example check out the opening song 'Trapped In A Love' which is another mid tempo treat that's ideal for any commercial dance floor.
Those of you reading this aware of the Temptations' Masterpiece opening will identify easily with the opening of the track 'Born On The Wild' which is very similar before breaking into a Temptations style wah wah tune which could have easily been written as a soundtrack to a black movie. As a bonus track the CD includes the instrumental version for good measure.
For real collectors the highlight of the album must be the inclusion of the superb ballad 'It Doesn't Have To Be This Way' a minute 37 second treat from 1973 which is a highly collectable item today. Also included for added sales potential are the bonus instrumental cuts 'Livin' High Off The Goodness Of Your Love/Born On The Wild'
I suspect this CD contains all the songs the band did for Invictus and therefore purchase of this set will result in an almost definitive collection of the bands output for HDH, although they did record a US 45 on the TCB label entitled 'Just A Mistake' which along with this album did nothing in terms of chart success and like so many other soul albums of the last thirty years the non commercial ones were the best.
This is a highly recommended purchase alongside the other Hot Wax/Invictus CD's reviewed above. A word of warning though, buy them now to avoid disappointment, and finding yourself waiting another thirty years until someone decides to re-issue them again.
